Dads 'better at doing DIY than children'

25th August 2010

A new study reveals many young people struggle doing DIY.

Those looking to enter online auctions may be interested in research by Halifax which shows that half of those under the age of 35 cannot wire a plug, while approximately two-thirds (63 per cent) would not attempt to put up wallpaper by themselves.

Instead, young Britons are much more willing to call in their parents for help with home improvements, with 65 per cent of those questioned claiming their dads are far better at doing DIY than they are.

Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager for Halifax Home Insurance, states: "This survey strongly suggests that younger people feel they don't have the experience or knowledge necessary to tackle even the most basic of home maintenance and DIY tasks.

Whatever your dad's level of skill at DIY, entering online auctions for him could see you win power tools and other products which could help to complete home improvement jobs for you.
