Motorists warned of high fuel prices

8th June 2010

Fuel Pump

Holidaymakers who have decided to drive to Europe this summer rather than risk air transport following the volcanic explosion in Iceland have been warned that fuel prices all over the continent have increased.

The Post Office surveyed 14 countries to compare the price of unleaded and diesel fuel.

It found that while many European nations still offer cheaper fuel than the UK, prices have risen by as much as 24p per litre for unleaded fuel and 30p for diesel.

Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Money, suggested that drivers who need unleaded fuel should fill up before they leave the UK because unleaded here is "a relatively good price compared to Europe".

If you want a hand with your fuel bills, why not enter an online auction to win one month's worth of fuel?

Based on the national average price of diesel and petrol, you could win £145 to help you keep your tank topped up.

And if you are planning to drive over to Europe, it could get your holiday off to a good start.
