Canon hints at new SLR model

21st July 2010

People who love heading out to take a few snaps but find that their SLR cameras are rather bulky could be in luck, as Canon has revealed that it is in the process of creating a smaller version of its SLR digital cameras.

Speaking to Reuters, Masaya Maeda, head of the image communication products division at Canon, said that the company is developing a "mirrorless" version of its popular models.

"There is a consumer need for good quality cameras to be made smaller. We will meet this need," Mr Maeda stated.

His comments come as the organisation announced that it is considering raising its camera sales forecast for 2010, the news provider reported.

Canon currently has nine digital SLR cameras on the market, as well as a standard film SLR camera.

Its most recent release in the digital SLR market was the Canon 550D, which has the ability to shoot video as well as still images.
