Alternative uses for your BBQ suggested

30th July 2010

With the summer in full swing, you may well be planning to get your barbeque out and make the most of the nice weather.

But if you're bored of the usual barbeque fare of burgers and sausages then one journalist has offered some tips for alternative uses for outdoor grills.

Julia Belluz wrote on Macleans.ca that there are some simple dishes you can prepare on a barbeque to make it more interesting.

These include grilling your salad or a pizza and even baking bread.

She suggests tossing a salad on the grill for "a rich and warm meal starter" or popping a pizza on the barbeque to rival a wood oven cooked pizza.

And Ms Belluz added that sweet food, as well as savoury can work well when cooked outdoors on a grill.

"Try finishing your meal with fruit from the grill for a smoky-caramelised flavour," she stated.

Whether you've picked up a new barbeque model - like the Weber Home Compact BBQ Grill - this summer or are making do with your trusted outdoor cooking tools, Ms Belluz's suggestions could give you food for thought.

It seems that the humble barbeque is becoming increasingly popular among Brits. Earlier this month, Bristol played host to Grillstock 2010 – a barbeque-themed food and drink festival.
