Scottish pupils win MP3 players

22nd July 2010

Two Scottish teens have been given MP3 players for their efforts in an engineering competition.

As well as being presented with brand new music players, the lucky duo were also taken for a day out on an air-sea rescue training exercise off the coast of Buchan, the Press and Journal reported.

Anna Ferguson beat off competition from more than 1,200 other school students in Aberdeenshire to win first place, while Aiden Peck was named runner-up.

Overall, seven schools took part in the initiative, with two finalists being selected from each establishment.

A series of challenges to test the children's engineering skills were then used to determine the winner, the newspaper explained.

Banff and Buchan College sponsored the event in a bid to encourage more young people to take up careers in engineering.

Curriculum leader for nautical studies at the college John Buchan thanked the rescue services for giving Anna and Aiden "a great day out".

Those looking for a new MP3 player may be interested to know that Samsung launched its Tic Toc music player last week.

The palm-sized MP3 player will be available in four colours and features four play modes and a voice guide.
