Exchange rate 'makes US an attractive and affordable holiday destination'

13th October 2010

The strength of the pound against the US dollar could make now an ideal time to bid for online auctions for holidays, should the comments of one expert be anything to go by.

Nothing that the news sterling has hit an eight-month high against the dollar to be "great", David Swann, currency strategist for Travelex, claims that "the US is sure to be a popular destination outside the eurozone".

Croatia and Egypt are among the other countries which look to be affordable for holidaymakers.

He also states that as the pound is down by more than six per cent against the Swiss franc compared to 12 months ago, people keen to go on a winter sports holiday may find resorts in Italy and France to be more affordable than those in Switzerland.

Such comments follow a recent Tesco Bank study, which revealed 27 per cent of people are looking to take advantage of cheaper travel deals.

Those looking to make their money go further when it comes to booking a break may find that entering penny auctions means the cost of going away is significantly less than what they would pay at a high street travel agent.
