Alternative use suggested for Stella McCartney handbag

21st May 2010

Woman with Handbag

Women love handbags and one top designer has suggested an alternative use for the fashion items, which could make a great gift for her.

As part of the Sow Your Own campaign from Cafe Direct, Stella McCartney donated one of her designer handbags, which has been planted up with herbs to create a micro allotment.

Other celebrities to join in the idea include Pearl Lowe - who planted up a tea set - and chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall who used one of his mixing bowls for his allotment.

The company is trying to encourage those without gardens to find alternative ways of growing their own produce.

If you like the idea of creating a mini allotment in a handbag then you might want to seek out an old one to give it a go.

But to replace it, you could enter an online penny auction for handbag vouchers.

At Quick2bid you could win up to £100 to spend on a new handbag from Debenhams or House of Fraser, which could be the perfect gift for her.
