Bangkok 'a top holiday destination'

The Travel + Leisure 2010 awards have been announced and Bangkok has been named as the world's best city.

Readers of the magazine vote in an annual survey to determine the winners and the Thai capital took the top spot, ahead of Chiang Mai, Kyoto and Siem Reap.

People who want to take a break this year could be encouraged to enter online auctions for holidays to have a chance of visiting an exotic destination such as Thailand.

Matt Leppard, editor-in-chief of Travel + Leisure Southeast Asia, commented that the award "is testament not only to the myriad [of] attractions on offer and the variety of top-draw hotels, but also the Thai people and culture".

Another destination to pick up an accolade is the Galapagos Islands, which were voted the world's best islands.
