Going on holiday is "not prohibitively expensive"
4th October 2010

"Holidays are not prohibitively expensive," according to one travel expert, although those who enter penny auctions for holidays could find the cost of going away is much less than if they booked a break via a travel agent.
Sue Ockwell, spokesperson for the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), states that people are continuing to choose where they travel and stay according to their budget, "as has always been the case".
The AITO representative goes on to point out that the overcapacity of flights and accommodation throughout Europe means that "there will always be offers".
Such comments follow research carried out by Cheapflights.co.uk which revealed US air fares in August were some 19 per cent higher than the same month in 2009.
However, by entering online auctions for holidays, people could find that the cost of getting away from it all - whether it is a city break or a fortnight spent by the beach - is significantly lower than if they book a vacation from a high street tour operator or travel agent.
